IFAL 2009

Company Profile

AS Theatre is a non-profit company, housed under the NAC Arts Housing Scheme with charity status. It was founded in 1993 by a group of talented and experienced artists Mr. Lee Ngoh Wah, Mr. Chong Kah Hoo and Mdm Goh Siew Geok. Since its establishment, TAS hopes to promote the appreciation of arts to our younger generation and to cultivate our local artist talents.                      

 In order to facilitate international cultural exchange, we have actively collaborated with overseas professional groups to enrich our local talents. We have previously invited the Wei Xin Band Group of Beijing University, and the North America Elite Youth Orchestra. We have also sent our group members to Chinese Opera Academy of Beijing for further enrichment and participated in cultural exchanges with Dun Huang. During the year of 1999, 2000, 2001 and 2002 respectively, we have also participated in the North Korean Friendship Cultural Festival.

 In the year 1998 and 1999, chairman cum conductor Mr. Lee Ngoh Wah accompanied by his Chinese Orchestra has achieved the “Best Performance” and “Best Composer” award for the participation in the North Korean Friendship Cultural Festival.

 In the year 2002, TAS Theatre were one of the co-organiser and planner for the performances for the Singapore Food Festival 2002. The organiser was Chinatown Business Association. During the same year, TAS Theatre was also invited to be the co-organiser and planner for the performances in the Dragon Boat Festival, organised by Singapore Dragon Boat Association.

 During the period of 1993-2003, TAS Theatre took part in the performances for the River Hong Bao Celebration during the Chinese New Year, and was responsible for the foreign arts organisation for China and Taiwan. The organisers were Singapore Chinese Clan Association and Singapore Chinese Business Association.

 In the year 2002, TAS Theatre co-organises the performance titled “The Wall” with RSVP, as the organiser. The guest-of-honour to grace the performance was Mr. Zainudin Nordin, MP for Bishan Toa Payoh GRC.

 In the year 2002 and 2003, TAS Theatre was invited to perform in Johore, Malaysia.

 TAS Theatre has focused actively in youth activities and talent building. We have started song composition classes, live band and Chinese musical instrument classes, as well as Acting Courses.
